Jimmy Rubenach as he was called was a well liked young man who worked as a ‘striker’ at George Adams blacksmith shop in Cook Street Eumundi and he played football for the local Eumundi side.

When war broke out he was ‘courting’ a local girl and after his departure overseas a son was born…

He enlisted 31 July 1915 and sailed on the HMAT A48 Seang Bee from Brisbane on 21 October 1915 and Jimmys war was to be a long one…

After Armistice was declared on 11 November 1918 it took many months to repatriate people and equipment.

Between November 1918 & January 1919 he contracted pulmonory tuberculosis and was sent home on the hospital ship Karoola and died in the Indian Ocean 11 June 1919 and was buried at sea.
